The field of biological physics has undergone a rapid expansion in recent years, with scientists now using physics-based approaches to study problems ranging from molecular structure the collective movement of animal swarms.

Journal of Biophysics and Physics provides a dedicated home for all areas of biological physics. We seek cutting-edge papers using physics in innovative ways to further our understanding of biological problems.

All areas of biological physics can be addressed, from the molecular level, through the mesoscale of membranes and cells, up to the macroscopic level of populations of living organisms. The main criteria for acceptance are the physical content of the research and its relevance to biological systems. In order to increase the links between physics and biology and among the various fields of biological physics, authors are advised to include a first section that introduces the basic issues addressed and the primary achievements to a non-specialist scientific reader.

Journal of Biophysics and Physics welcomes Original Research (in-depth longer articles), Research Letters (shorter, high impact work), Reviews and Perspectives articles.

The studies published will be organized under Topical Sections which reflect the biological scale of the problems studied:
-Biological Physics of Nucleic Acids and Proteins
-Biological Physics of Lipids and Membranes
-Big Data: Proteomics, Genomics and Lipidomics
-Biological Physics of the Cell
-Genetic Networks
-Physiology
-Neurodynamics & Neural Connectivity
-Ecology & Evolutionary Processes
-Collective Behavior
-Other (General Biological Physics)

en-USJournal of Biophysics and PhysicsComparative Characterization of the Natural Sounds of the Bottlenose Dolphin

The results reveal a broad variation of enthalpy (ΔH) and entropy contribution (TΔS) for odorant interaction with different sets of olfactory receptors. The observed enthalpy change was always followed by a corresponding change in the entropy contribution (TΔS), maintaining constant free energy (ΔG): ΔG=ΔH-TΔS and obeying the enthalpy-entropy compensation. Notably, in all experiments, the changes in enthalpy or entropy do not correlate with the change of free energy.
Israa Al-Naffakh

Medical Imaging accounts for the largest radiation exposure of population from artificial sources of radiation. The radiation dose received by patients from medical X-ray examinations in Nigeria has shown large variations within and among diagnostic centers for similar examinations. This could be traced to lack of imaging protocols and availability of local or national diagnostic reference levels. The purpose of this study is to use film densitometry to estimate radiation absorbed dose to patients undergoing chest X-ray examination in the hospitals where this study was carried out, in order to determine their levels of exposure and compare with internationally recommended limits.Although the radiation doses resulting from diagnostic X-ray examinations are routinely measured in terms of entrance surface dose and effective dose using thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD), optically stimulated luminescent dosimeter (OSLD), film badges, pocket dosimeter and electronic personal dosimeter (EPD). In this study for the purpose of radiation protection, the radiation doses from chest X-ray examination were estimated in terms of Mean Optical Density (MOD), by means of densitometer.
Rahman Mulia*Evan Soejoko
